To help you enjoy your stay with us to the full and experience just a little of life
in our special corner of Scotland we have prepared a short tour of the North Highlands in the spirit of the ‘Grand Tour’ that was fashionable at the time Forss House was built.

The original ‘Grand Tour’ would take anything from a few months to several years to complete and it fulfilled a very real need at the time;

"As such it (the Grand Tour) fulfilled a major social need, namely the necessity of finding young men, who were not obliged to work and for whom work would often be a derogation, something to do between school and the inheritance of family wealth. It allowed the young to sow their wild oats abroad and it kept them out of trouble, including disputes with their family, at home."

(Jeremy Black)

During their travels the Grand Tourist would typically embrace the local culture, language, history, geography, climate, crops, food, clothes, customs, politics, laws, art, architecture and trade regulations.

So enjoy the Tour!
