Suggested walks close to Forss House Hotel

St Mary's Chapel, Forss (2.5km - suitable for most abilities)

From Forss House Hotel, cross the lawn and follow the river (on the hotel side), towards the sea until you reach a car park (at the end of the Corsskirk road). Then, follow the farm track until you come to some steps. Follow them down to the Forss Water and cross the bridge. The path leads up the cliffs and along to St Mary's Chapel. You can either return by the same route or;

Upon returning to the car park, follow the Crosskirk road up to the main (A836) road and turn right then following the footpath on the side of the road down to the main Forss House Hotel Gate.


Archvarsadal Wood, Reay. (2km - suitable for most abilities)

From Forss House Hotel, head west along the A836 towards Reay for 5 miles. Turn left at Isauld Bridge into the car park.

The walk consists of a shallow loop and from the car park you enter the wood and can choose to either skirt the west flank of Achvarasdal Wood or head east to explore the wetland area. At the furthest point, the walk opens into a clearing and within that lies Achvarasdal House and the ancient Broch. There are various other small loops that bring you back to the clearing and allow you to further investigate the wood. This woodland has been allowed to grow naturally and has 35 species of tree, 19 of which are native.
